about

james "jimmy" miller is a young artist based in knysna, south africa.

influences include the old masters, such as ansel adams, kenro izu and abbas attar. although he draws heavily on the old masters for inspiration, his work is often extremely modern, influenced by contemporary artists such as michael lelande. this is often abstract or very minimal; high contrast is used in many cases to convey emotion or depth. James is an artist unphased by calls to photograph what other people want to see. Making a clear cut between commercial contract work and art.

"in my work, I solely photograph the world as I see it through my lens; sometimes beautiful, sometimes dark. I believe this clear-cut honesty which I strive for in my work is what makes it unusual, especially in my medium of photography. please feel free to browse my galleries, be it for artistic or commercial reasons. I have but one request: if you are viewing my artwork, please take a moment to absorb the photograph; not only as a photograph, but as a window into my thoughts and emotions. I view my work as very personal and I like people to find their own meaning in it, be it a philosophical observation or as a feeling relavent to your life. by the same token, I am more than happy to give a brief explanation of a specific work. My email address is on my contact page, just drop me a line.

I am often asked about the name "vincible". "don't you mean INvincible?" is a common query. the name stems from my early experimentation with photography. I was always interested but never wanted to 'dive in' and invest in a camera. that is when i found an old camera phone of mine, which had gone for a swim. nothing worked on it but the camera and the infrared transmitter. I would take photos, transfer them to my other phone (which did not have a camera) and from there to my computer. the whole project started with all odds against it, a broken camera phone, no expectations. purely experimentation. even still, I only grew more and more interested. the project had this name from the start; the opposite of "invincible," as it took off, I just kept the name and I am now quite proud of it." - james miller
